3D scanning and reverse engineered hybrid CAD model

This project, for a motorsport customer required the 3D scanning and reverse engineering of an engine sump. To save time and cost a hybrid 3D CAD model was produced and delivered. The required machined surfaces and holes were modelled to the original design intent and the complex casting surfaces were modelled using the scanned mesh and the reverse engineering softwares auto surfacing feature. This produced a high accuracy model with the customers required machined features aligned to the parts axis system.
